ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Configuring the modem ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Prerequisites:
To configure the modem you'll need at least:
One SPID ( Service Profile Identifier. )
One TEI ( Terminal End Point ID. )
One DN ( Directory Number. )
In addition to the above information:
The Switch Type used by your local telephone company.
The Protocol Type used by your local telephone company.
What kind of calls will be made on each channel.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Dialing Method Setting. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
There are two options for this setting:
Standard analog ( Overlapping )
All digits at once ( en-bloc )
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1.1. Standard analog ( Overlapping ) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The digitis are sent one at the time. This is the standard
dialing mode.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1.2. All digits at once ( en-bloc ) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The digitis are not sent unless the '*' character is sent at
the end of the dialing process.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2. Call type for B1 ( Analog channel. ) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
There are two options for this setting:
Speech
Modem or Fax ( 3.1Khz audio ).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.1. Speech ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Set this option if you will use the analog port only to make
voice calls using a analog telephone.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.2. Modem or Fax ( 3.1 Khz audio ) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Set this option if you will be using fax machine or analog
modem connected to the analog port. This type of call is
also reffered to as 3.1 Khz audio.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3. Call type for B2 ( Data channel. ) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
There are six options for this setting:
Automatic Service Choice.
V.120 rate adaptation calls only.
V.110 rate adaptation calls only.
Modem or Fax emulation only.
Clear-Channel synchronous calls only.
Internet access mode
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.1. Automatic Service Choice. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Automatic Service Choice.
The modem will try to make a V.110 ( asynchronous, rate
adapted to 64Kbps ) connection. If a V.110 connection can't
be made it tries a V.110 connection ( depending on the value
of S-Register 67 ). If a V.110 connection fails the modem
attempts a V.34 ( analog ) connection. If a V34 connection
fails the call is negotiated as an analog call ( V.FC, V32Terbo,
V32bis, and so on. )
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.2. V.120 Only. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
V.120 Only.
The modem will try a V.120 connection. If the V.120
connection fails the modem will not try to connect at any
other speed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.3. V.110 Only. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
V.110 Only.
The modem will try a V.110 connection. If the V.110
connection fails the modem will not try to connect at any
other speed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.4. Modem or Fax Emulation Only. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Modem or Fax Emulation Only.
The modem will only make analog calls when this option is
selected. In this mode the modem only works in analog mode.
Selecting this option reduces the connect time.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.5. Clear Channel Synchronous Only. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Clear Channel Synchronous Only.
The modem sets up a clear channel, 56Kbps or 64Kbps.
This option is best suited for videoconferencing and remote
access to mini or mainframe computers.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.6. Internet Access. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Internet Access.
This option requires TCP/IP to be installed. This option
requires that your software can use a PPP or SLIP protocol.
The modem firt tries to make clear channel digital connection
by converting the asynchronous PPP stream from your
computer to synchronous PPP used by your ISP. If the digital
connection fails the modem tries a V.34 ( analog ) connection.
If the V34 connection fails the call is negotiated as a standard
analog call (V.FC, V32Terbo, V32bis, and so on. )
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.4. SPID for B1 and B2 ( Data and Analog channels. ) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Service Profile Identifier.
The telephone company should have provided you with one
or two SPID numbers ( depending on the service ordered. )
This field can be up to 20 digits.
SPIDs tell the telephone company any special services and
features to which you've subscribed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5. TEI for B1 and B2 ( Data and Analog channels. ) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Terminal Endpoint ID.
If the telephone company provided this information it should
be entered in this field. Otherwise the value should be set to
0 ( dynamic TEI assignment. )
This setting should be in the 0 - 63 range ( 0 is automatic
TEI assignment. ) This setting identifies your link with the
telephone company.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.6. DN for B1 and B2 ( Data and Analog channels. ) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Directory Number.
DNs can be 10 or 7 digits, however the Courier I modem
accepts only 7 digit DNs. In this case the area code should
be ignored when setting this field.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.7. Analog signal volume. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Analog signal volume.
This option sets the audio volume level for the analog
channel.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.8. Ring signal volume. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Ring signal volume.
This option sets the ring volume level for the analog
channel.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.9. Protocol Type. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Protocol Type.
There are four options for this setting:
AT/T 5ESS
Northern Telecom DMS-100
National ISDN-1
National ISDN-2
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.9.1. AT/T 5ESS. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
AT/T 5ESS.
Based on the switch type you should choose the protocol
type.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.10. Bus Configuration. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Bus Configuration.
If the switch protocol is AT/T 5ESS Custom then this option
should be enabled. Bus configuration refers to how many
devices will be on the S/T bus. A line configured for point-
to-point expects only one device attached to the S/T bus.
A multipoint line can handle more than one device attached
to the S/T bus.
Point-Point
Multipoint
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.10.1. Point-Point. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Point-Point.
The modem requires one DN and no SPID when connected
to a point-to-point configured line.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.10.2. Multipoint. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Multipoint.
The modem requires one DN and one SPID when connected
to a multipoint configured line.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.11. 5ESS Incoming Call Route. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
5ESS Incoming Call Route.
If the switch protocol is AT/T 5ESS Custom then this option
should be enabled.
Set this option if analog calls should be routed to the
modem's data port. If
